Online Mental Health Communities Help Travelers With Addictions Stay Connected

Travelers in recovery from drug or alcohol addiction, or those living with depression and anxiety conditions, face the challenge of being away from their therapist or support community (AA).  Now, online mental health communities dedicated to those issues offer frequent travelers away to belong to a community and share their daily issues.

WebTribesInc offers four customized online mental health communities designed to benefit those dealing with depression, anxiety, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and addiction -- all disorders in which journaling, sharing and group therapy are proven techniques for recovery, according to the National Institute of Metal health.

The four sites are:

www.depressiontribe.org
www.myanxiety.org
www.myocd.org
 www.addictiontribe.com

"Our websites bring people together with similar life issues from around the world that are in need of support. We believe that connecting and communicating with others will have a positive affect on peoples healing and their lives," states Ryan FitzGerald, Internet pioneer and founder of WebTribes Inc.

Each community website offers users a free membership where they can create their own profile and online journal. Users are able to upload and share pictures, as well as select from a catalog of hundreds of music videos to set the mood for their personal page. Each community also encourages social interaction with polling, groups, forums and chat features. The website even offers a "fun section" to keeps things light, offering games and silly Internet videos.

Users can feel free to express themselves, in this non-judgmental socially safe environment.  Many members have become evangelists for these communities, welcoming new members and promoting the websites across the Internet on their own accord.

"It's one thing to read statistics, but to see names, faces and stories is another," one member says. While another member calls it, "The most caring and understanding website I have found."
