Short Duration European Railpass Now Available At Steep Price Reduction

For those visiting only two or three destinations in France, Rail Europe has just introduced a new 3-day France Railpass, priced at $238 US/$286 CAD (1st class) or $202 US/$243 CAD (2nd), which can save money even over discounted "book early" point-to-point train tickets. Previously, the shortest duration of a France Railpass was four days (priced at $274 US/$329 CAD 1st class or $233US/$280 CAD 2nd ). France Railpasses must be purchased in North America before leaving for Europe.

To illustrate the cost savings, point-to-point train tickets for a three-leg itinerary from Paris to Lyon then Cannes and returning to Paris cost $538 US/$651 CAD (1st class) or $376US/$455CAD (2nd class) for full fare (exchangeable/refundable) tickets or $318 US/$385 CAD (2nd ) for non-returnable/exchangeable "book early" fares.

In addition, the railpass lets you take unlimited train trips on each rail travel day, which may be used anytime within a one-month period (i.e. rail travel days need not be consecutive). Up to seven more days may be added to the 3-day France Railpass. Valuable bonuses of the pass include passholder fares on Eurostar, Thalys and other international trains, discounts on Seine River cruises, at various attractions and more (see bonuses at http://www.raileurope.com/us/rail/passes/france_index.htm).

In a new, related development, seat reservations made in North America on TGVs and other French trains are now fully exchangeable locally in France at no additional cost, a great benefit for travelers whose plans change en route.

"We're committed to giving travelers the best deal possible on the trains," says Fabrice Morel, President and CEO of the Rail Europe Group. "While very low prices are available on our Web site for tickets on many routes in France, railpasses are almost always a better bargain for those seeing more than two cities. The shorter 3-day France Railpass gives travelers a new money-saving option for getting around on more limited itineraries."

A subsidiary of SNCF (French National Railroads), Rail Europe is the leading North American distributor of European railpasses and tickets, serving more than 1 million North American travelers annually.
