Alabama State Parks Seeking Small Business Gatherings At Its Facilities

A state park may not appear to be the place for a business meeting but Alabama is seeking to attract business owners to several locations. 

The Alabama State Parks Commissions is going out of its way to show people the advantages of using such venues.

At first blush, these sites seem ideal for smaller companies seeking to avoid high costs at convention hotels and other facilities.

For fairly large conventions, the convention hall at Joe Wheeler State Park on a large lake in Rogersville, Ala., (north central part of state, actually called by the locals as "God's Country" for its beauty) can accommodate 600 for a reception, 425 for a banquet, 500 in a theater setting, or 300 in classroom arrangement. Also, the River Room capacity is 300 for a reception, 150 for a banquet, 200 theater-style or 150 classroom-style. *Lakepoint Resort State Park in Southern Alabama near Georgia (an area also known for its beauty) is a full service convention complex offering a 101-unit resort lodge with restaurant that is designed to accommodate conference meals and coffee breaks. *Cheaha Resort State Park in Central Alabama, halfway between the two hour drive of Birmingham, Ala. and Atlanta ( http://www.alapark.com/parks/park.cfm?parkid=7 ) is in secluded mountain terrain but offers new free wireless and newly renovated conference space. The park can accommodate 35 to 50 people at its Meeting Room or up to 100-120 in the dining hall at the all new Bald Rock Lodge. The Bald Rock Lodge is a beautiful newly renovated CCC facility with 12 private rooms that will sleep up to 32 people. It has its own kitchen and conference room. The state park includes, fishing, camping, hiking.

Free wireless also in the lobby and in the restaurant, along with a fireplace meeting room is available at DeSoto State Park Lodge in Fort Payne, Ala., on the back side of breathtaking Lookout Mountain. Called the DeSoto room, the fireplace room will accommodate up to 25 people.
