Cancun’s World Class Shopping

Cancun has gathered together every season’s hottest trends in the culture lounge of the most prestigious brands in the world. With 2,000 stores distributed in twelve shopping centers located in the hotel zone and downtown, you’ll find exactly what you are looking for, no matter what your budget.

Boulevard Kukulcan is home to some of the top hotels in the region but also its biggest and best shopping experience: Luxury Avenue. The first boutique mall established in the Caribbean, this 60,000 sqf boutique mall is filled with some of the most distinguished names in luxury including Italian, German, French, Spanish and Australian labels. Among these glamorous fashion icons are names like: Fendi, Hermenegildo Zegna, Salvatore Ferragamo, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Carolina Herrera, Tous, and Coach- all under one roof. You can find anything from haute couture, to fine jewelry, cosmetics, fragrances, and accessories all from leading designers to handcrafts, all at duty free low prices. As a border area, the value added tax is 10%, 5% less than other parts of the country.

La Isla Shopping Village, designed to look Venetian with its small bridges and canals, is a complex located on the banks of the Nichupte lagoon. With more than 150 shops with a variety of brand names such as: Masimo, Tommy Hilfiger, DKNY, Bulgari, United Colors of Benetton, Nine West, Von Dutch, Cartier, and Chanel it is yet another spot for shoppers. This complex boasts a movie theatre, restaurants, an aquarium where you can swim with dolphins, and options for spa excursions.

Many restaurants are located in the city’s shopping malls. The malls also provide a great deal of entertainment with their art exhibits, cinemas and video arcades. Stores often stay open until 10pm.

As Mexico’s most visited destination, Cancun is famous for its diverse offer of handcraft and original jewelry available at places like Marcado 28 in downtown Cancun; this flea market is famous for it souvenirs with Mayan symbols. Next door is Plaza Bonita with colorful local merchandise. Other handcraft markets include Coral Negro and Ki Huic.

Plaza Hong Kong is a little “china town” within Mexico, offering all kinds of imported products from Asia.

Visitors that prefer large department stores can go to Plaza Las Americanas located in downtown Cancun while their kids can play at an indoor playground (Rechorcholis). Other options for visitors staying in the hotel zone are Playa Caracol and Flamingo Plaza featuring fine apparel and cosmetics as well as souveniers, silver crafts, dining and cafes.

Cancun’s shops can be found in charming retail centers and contemporary malls, in stretches of luxurious boutiques that afford you spectacular Caribbean and lagoon views, in quaint Caribbean villages where local culture shines, and in the folkloric flea markets offering distinctive souvenirs from all around Mexico. In fact, the complete Cancun shopping experience is so diverse; it takes the most experienced shoppers several days to enjoy.
