Unique American Museum of Natural History Cruise Programs Are Set for Remainder of 2009

There's still time to reserve space on a fall or winter cruise with the American Museum of Natural History Expeditions (www.amnhexpeditions.org). Led by AMNH scientists, cruise programs still available for 2009 include:

* The Great Lakes (Sept. 5–12)
With vistas of lonely lighthouses on cliff tops, lush forested islands, Victorian villages and Niagara Falls, cruising the Great Lakes with AMNH Geologist Sidney Horenstein is an ideal way to enjoy the pleasures of a grand voyage without having to venture far from home.

* Treasures of the Black Sea (Oct. 7–16)
Traveling with retired Navy captain Fred McLaren, passengers explore the myriad cultures along the Black Sea coast, visits with Istanbul, Odessa, Yalta, and more; and discuss the wonders of its depths—both native marine life and ancient shipwrecks.

* Vietnam, Cambodia and the Mekong River (Oct. 20–Nov. 4)
Museum travelers go on a voyage with former U.S. Ambassador Sichan Siv as they explore the classical French architecture of Hanoi, cruise the Mekong River, see colorful floating marketplaces, and marvel at the magnificence of Angkor Wat.

* South Georgia and Antarctica Expedition (Nov. 21–Dec. 13)
Travelers retrace explorer Earnest Shackleton’s route through South Georgia and Antarctica to experience the untamed grandeur of this frozen landscape. Its jagged mountain peaks, glaciers tumbling to the sea and breathtaking inlets were the setting for one of the most heroic rescue missions in the history of exploration.

* Family Holiday in Egypt (Dec. 26, 2009–Jan. 6, 2010)
Adventurers trek into the heart of ancient Egypt—a land of pyramids and pharaohs, gods and goddesses, hidden tombs and golden treasures—with Egyptologist Fetiche Posma-Zaalouk on an expedition designed to bring one of the greatest civilizations of antiquity to life for explorers of all ages.

Special offers for many programs can be found online at amnhexpeditions.org.

For more than 50 years, AMNH Expeditions has presented educational travel programs that reflect the Museum’s past and current areas of interest and exploration and enable travelers to embark on explorations of the world in the company of scientists, curators, and educators. Participation helps to support the Museum’s mission to discover, interpret, and disseminate, through scientific research and education, knowledge about human cultures, the natural world, and the universe. More information on this and other educational travel opportunities available through AMNH Expeditions can be found at www.amnhexpeditions.org or by calling 1-800-462-8687.
